CALL FOR ABSTRACTS (Papers/Posters)
Deadline for submission: March 12, 2010
We invite AWHONN members, as well as non-members, to submit abstracts for the 2010 conference.
THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF ABSTRACTS CAN BE SUBMITTED FOR REVIEW
- INNOVATIVE PROGRAM PRESENTATIONS are about newly created and/or implemented programs that address challenges in women's health, obstetric and neonatal nursing practice, education or administration. Abstracts describing programs with demonstrated outcomes will be given priority. Abstracts must include: the rationale for the program, an explanation of why the program is innovative, program objective(s), timeline, major outcomes achieved, and plans for further implementation or evaluation.
- RESEARCH PAPER PRESENTATIONS describe an original clinical research study related to women's health, obstetric and/or neonatal practice or childbearing families. Abstracts must include: a clinically relevant problem statement and research question(s)/ hypothesis, methods (including design, sample, procedures), results, interpretation and implications for practice and/ or research.
- KNOWLEDGE TRANSER (KT) PRESENTATIONS describe the implementation or evaluation of evidence-based practice guidelines, or other strategies to promote knowledge transfer. Abstracts must include: explanation of the current practice and proposed change (or description of the initiative to promote KT), implementation and evaluation strategies, results and implications for practice, education or research.
- EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVE PRESENTATIONS describe an innovative nursing education, continuing education or patient teaching initiative related to perinatal or women's health. Abstracts must include: the rationale for and explanation of why the initiative is innovative, objective(s), description of the initiative, results and implications for teaching and learning.
- CLINICAL PRACTICE UPDATES provide an evidence-based review of a clinical issue or "hot topic" related to perinatal or women's health nursing, with current recommendations for clinical practice. Abstracts must include: description of the topic, rationale for the review, review methods used, and recommendations for practice.
PRESENTATION MODALITIES
Presenters can request an oral or a poster presentation. You are not guaranteed that your presentation will be accepted in the modality requested.
ORAL PRESENTATIONS
Presentations will be limited to 30 minutes including speaker introduction and questions/answers. Presenters will have access to a laptop (no wireless mouse), LCD projector, screen and lectern with microphone (dependant on the size of the room). No other audio/visual equipment (e.g. flipcharts, laser pointer, overheads, slides or videos/TVs) will be provided, nor can be used.
POSTER PRESENTATIONS
Presenters are to be present at their posters and available for questions at specified poster viewing times. Presenters will be provided with a 4 ft x 8 ft board. Electrical outlets will not be available and there are no video/TV capacities.
**Special Note: Monetary prizes will be awarded for posters in two different categories: student and non-student.
An expert panel will judge the posters during the poster viewing periods.
ABSTRACT SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
Please follow instructions carefully. Incorrect, incomplete or late abstracts will not be reviewed.
1. Abstracts are limited to 250 words (excluding title and author names). Use Arial 11 point font and single-spacing.
2. Send two different electronic files containing your abstract. To facilitate the blind review process, in one file do not include author names or other identifying information in the abstract. In the second file, include the author(s) names(s) and credentials at the top of the abstract as they are to appear in the program and in the conference book of abstracts.
3. Send an email with THREE Word 2003 attachments to the following address: abstracts2010@gmail.com
4. In the subject line of your email include "Abstract - short abstract title - your full name [last and first}" - for example "Abstract_Define_pre_term_McNeilTerry
5. Your email must contain:
a. TWO electronic Word files with the abstracts (i.e., two copies of the abstract - one blinded and one with author(s) listed). Both Word files must be in 2003 format so ensure you save as a 2003 document. Please name the files using the following format:
Full abstract for publication in program: "Full Abstract - short abstract title - your full name [last and first]". (i.e., Define_pre_term_McNeilTerryFULL)
Blind abstract for peer review: "Blind Abstract - short abstract title only". (i.e., Define_pre_termBLIND)
b. A completed Presentation Summary Form (see next page). Please name the file: ""Summary Abstract - short abstract title - your full name". (i.e., Define_pre_term_McNeilTerrySUMM)
6. DEADLINE: Friday, March 12, 2010
7. All abstracts will be peer reviewed by the Scientific Review Committee. The first author will be notified via email of the results of the review process by May 1, 2010.
